ABILENE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY

Founded in 1906, Abilene Christian University is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the large town of Abilene (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Texas. Officially accredited/recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Abilene Christian University  is a small (enrollment range: 5,000-5,999 students) coeducational higher education institution formally affiliated with the Christian  ((Church of Christ  of- religion. Abilene Christian University  offers courses and programs leading to  recognized higher education degrees such as undergraduate certificates/diplomas, associate degrees, bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 110 years old HE institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 40-50% making this US higher education organization a averagely selective institution. A.B. and Charles Roberson were on their way to a gospel meeting when  first said to Roberson, "Let's build a school in West Texas." That was in 1903. In 1905, , a teacher at Southwestern Christian College in Denton, struck an agreement with Col. J.W.  , a leader in the Abilene church, to buy land from him at a reduced price on the condition that the school would be named in his honor. The  Classical Institute, offering 11 primary and secondary grades, opened its doors in Fall 1906 with 25 students enrolled for classes.

' first years were difficult for everyone, with cold classrooms, crowded living conditions and a water shortage. The school was led by four presidents during those early years: , H.C. , R.L.  and James F. Cox (who served another term as president from 1931-40).

Jesse P.  became president in 1912.  declined his salary, opting to run the school as though it were a personal business enterprise. With  s new approach came a new identity for the school. Since its beginning, the institute had been commonly referred to as Abilene Christian or the Christian college in Abilene. When  became president, the school began using the name Abilene Christian College in its catalog and other printed materials. The campus grew by four new brick buildings, an enlarged administration building and six frame structures, and an increased enrollment of about 300 students during his final term. Sewell's tenure also resulted in accreditation as a junior college in 1914 and as a senior college in 1919.

The Directorate of Admissions

The Directorate of Admissions (DoA) was established by the University in the year 2014 with a view to stream line the entire admissions process in the University Teaching Departments and affiliated colleges of the University. The main aim of DoA is conducting centralised admissions to various UG, PG, M.Phil & Ph.D programmes offered by the University and its affiliated colleges in a systematic, transparent and student friendly manner following all reservation rules. The major task of DoA is Centralised Admission Process(CAP) for UG and PG, which offers facility for online submission of single application for various UG & PG courses in multiple colleges affiliated to the University. CAP helps students to submit applications of their choice through simple online steps. This hassle free process is time saving, cost effective and ensures transparency in admission.
